Go on, get your feet wet…host a fun-filled under the sea birthday party! Hand-made invitations cut into the shapes of either a fish, mermaid or crab finished off with a bit of glitter will really set the scene.
Decorations are simple but effective – suspend blue and green party streamers, balloons and cellophane from the ceiling to represent bubbles. Draw and cut out a variety of under-the-sea creatures (or if you have any shells handy) and stick them on the walls and the fence. Use paddling pools to create your own rock pools and eat blue jelly with marshmallow fish.
- Blowing Bubbles: For extra no-prep fun, give each child some bubbles and have a contest for who can make the largest, most, smallest etc.
- Pin the Tail on the Whale: Draw a large picture of a whale, without its tail. Make enough tails for each guest (and perhaps a few extras). Using two-sided tape, put a small piece of tape (and a number to keep track!) on the back of each tail and have the kids try to pin the tail on the whale.
Oscar Octopus or Pirate Adventure will make a great addition to this party and don’t forget to play this game on your jumping castle:
Grasshopper Says
An adult of choice needs to start this game for the children. All the children should stand in the castle, facing the door. The adult starts off with a statement of ‘Grasshopper says do this’ …and then follows it with a funny action. All the children have to copy the action. Have a few trial goes before commencing the game. However, if the adult says ‘Do this’ (followed by an action) without saying Grasshopper, then the children should ignore the instruction.
The children who do not ignore the ‘Do this’ instruction, need to sit on the mat of the castle until the game is completed.
