Star Wars is a hugely popular sci-fi movie franchise with fans of all ages, young and old. It also makes a fantastic theme for a birthday party.
If you’re looking to host your own Star Wars themed birthday party this year, then look no further. We’ve got some great ideas to help you pull it off in epic intergalactic style – May the force be with you!
1. Party Invitations
When it comes to party invitations, you have a few different options. You can buy some pre-made Star Wars invitations (available in any reputable party store, or alternatively online) or, if you’re feeling especially creative, you could have a go at making your own!
What about cutting some card into the shape of a lightsaber and writing the party details horizontally along the beam? Or if you’re a whiz with Photoshop you could take stills from the Star Wars movies and insert some text over the top in a Star Wars style font. Remember to include important details like the time and date of the party, where it’s being held and to come in fancy dress. Make sure you send the invitations out far enough in advance to give the kids time to prepare their costumes!
2. Fancy Dress Costume
With so many different characters in the Star Wars universe, there are a tons of different costume ideas to choose from. Kids will be spoiled for choice! For girls, there’s the classic Princess Leia – (hair tied in two tight buns either side of their head and a long white robe or dress) and for boys a favourite is Obi Wan Kanobi (an off-white tunic and toy lightsaber to boot) – characters like Darth Vader are equally as popular and imitation masks are readily available in stores and online.
3. Games and Activities
Why not host a Star Wars movie trivia game? You could split the kids into two or three teams and test their knowledge of the Star Wars movies. The winning team could get a small prize like a bag of treats each or a miniature toy.
And here’s a clever twist on an old favourite – Pin the tail on the donkey. How about ‘Pin the light sabre on Yoda’? – Simply print off a large picture of Yoda (the bigger the better!), blindfold the kids and have them attempt to stick a paper light sabre where they think Yoda’s hands are. Whoever gets the closest wins!
4. Food and Drink Ideas
Food ideas should be focused around space and the galaxy. Sherbet filled flying saucer sweets are a super retro treat that fit the theme perfectly and add a bit of much needed colour to any table spread! For chocolate, it might be a good idea to stock up on ‘Milky Way’ and Mars Bars’.
You might even go as far as naming different snacks and beverages after characters in the Star Wars universe. How about spicing things up with some ‘Wookie Cookies’ or even some ‘Yoda Soda’? Food can be served up on Star Wars themed paper plates and napkins to give a touch of authenticity to proceedings.
5. Star Wars Music
No Star Wars birthday party would be complete without hearing the classic Star Wars theme song (you know which one I’m talking about!) – a touch of background music helps keep everyone in high spirits and carries the theme throughout the day. If you’ve got enough cash to hand, you could purchase the soundtrack CD of your choice of Star Wars movie. If not, there’s always Youtube!
6. Finishing Touches
What about creating a Star Wars backdrop where the kids can have their photos taken? Take a large piece of card (black or navy blue works best) and decorate it to resemble a starry, night sky background.
If you really want to impress, we think our Zorb balls will make the perfect out of this world addition to any Star Wars birthday bash. It’s great fun and the kids will love it!
Follow these suggestions and you’ll be well on your way to hosting the perfect Star Wars birthday party. Best of luck, and remember … Use the force!
