Is it a bird?… Is it a plane?… No, it’s a helpful guide to our top five superhero parties!
Children will become lost in this fantasy world of heroes and villains. Whether they are the fearless crime-fighting hero, the mischievous and meddling villain, or the loyal sidekick, we know that kids love dressing up, especially as their favourite superhero.
A superhero party can stretch your child’s imagination for miles! By taking on the role of their favourite superhero their confidence (and acting skills!) will take off!
But superhero parties are not just for kids, they can also be enjoyed by all of those big kids out there. The thrill of morphing into your all-time favourite hero or villain lends a casual and playful atmosphere to any party, for grown-ups and kids alike!
The path to heroism is an easy one to take. Here are four of our favourite superhero party ideas for you to get started with.
1. “It’s just your friendly neighbourhood Spiderman!”
Spiderman is an age old favourite for young boys. Equipped with his speed, incredible agility and web blasters, Spiderman is a much loved and aspirational character. If your Spidey Sense is tingling for this theme, here are a few ideas to get you started.
COSTUME: Spiderman’s costume can easily be made at home, again engaging children with their creative side. A little red and black face paint can go a long way in a Spiderman themed party.
GAMES: Spidey’s Blasters is a game similar to ‘pin the tail on the donkey’. Using cut outs of Spiderman’s nemeses’ (such as Doctor Octopus or the Green Goblin) as targets, the aim is to hit the target with Spidey’s web blasters (silly string) whilst having your eyes shut. The winner is the one who can reach the target first without opening their eyes.
2. “This looks like a job for Superman!”
If your senses aren’t tingling for Spiderman then perhaps Superman can come to the rescue. This iconic superhero is sure to make any party complete! With powers that include flight, super strength and x-ray vision, the love of this character is one that is felt by all. The scope for games and decoration is vast! Here are a few ideas:
DECORATIONS: Superman’s chest logo can be used to decorate almost anything, from wall hangings to cups, even to party bags and food. His red cape is also something that is iconic to the character, using things like red table cloths to dress tables will help the theme run through all aspects of the party.
GAMES: The ‘X-ray Vision’ game is based on Superman’s x-ray power. To set up the game you will need a blacked out box with a hole cut in one side. The box is then filled with one item at a time, with the aim being to guess the contents just through feel. The box can be filled with anything, but by using objects that have unusual textures, the game can really stretch the imagination.
The Superman theme can be altered to a Supergirl theme so that girls can enjoy all the powers, costumes and games as much as boys!
3. “Avengers Assemble!”
For parties that need a superhero theme, but also want variety, then picking a team of superheroes just might be the solution! Avengers feature several heroes all with different super powers and costumes.
HEROES: Some of the superheroes that are part of Avengers include Iron Man, the Hulk, Spider-woman and Captain America. A series of mini-games could be played to test each hero’s power, for example a strength test could be set for the Hulk.
CRAFTS: Make sure that you have basic mask shapes cut out and ready for the day. (Tip: Punch a hole on either side of the mask and tie a piece of elastic round the back so that the mask can be worn).
When you are ready, sit all the superheroes around a table and give them glitter, paint, sparkles and other craft materials for them to decorate their very own masks.
4. “To the Batmobile!”
Think pants worn over tights, think black cape and think superhuman intelligence. This superhero is a classic favourite! If you have two children, just remember, Batman never goes far without Robin, so each child could be one of the dynamic duo.
DECORATIONS: The Batman logo is an iconic symbol that can be used in all aspects of decoration. By attaching small, bat-shaped cut-outs onto the end of a torch, the prolific Batman light can be recreated to make any party feel like a realistic recreation of Gotham City.
You could also cover the tables with black tablecloths or black sheets to add to the overall theme.
