Pack your binoculars and jungle hats and go for a walk on the wild side!
Draw a map of your neighbourhood and include several landmarks but change the name of those landmarks to things like “Hippo Waterhole”, “Cheetah Tree”, “Monkey Madeness”, etc. Photocopy the map and print your safari birthday invitation on the inside.
Creating a jungle is easy – first create vines by twisting green and brown paper streamers together and hang them from the walls and fences. Line your walkway with an animal “paw print” trail by cutting paw prints out of cardboard and taping them to the ground. Put paddling pools in the garden with signs saying, “Beware of the Crocodiles”.
- Jungle Charades – Put stickers of wild animals on index cards and allow each child to pick a card (one by one) and act out their creatures for the others to guess. No words are allowed but animal noises are a must.
- Hungry Lions – Pick one or two kids to be the lions and the rest can be antelope. The hungry lions must chase and try and catch the antelope. If an antelope is caught, he/she can be freed if another antelope crawls through their legs (without being caught). The jumping castle can be their den (place to rest without the risk of being caught).
Geoffrey Giraffe and Jungle Fever will make a great addition to this party!
