Ahoy, me Hearties!
Kids love to dress up, and a pirate themed birthday party is a fantastic idea for children of all ages. Feel like you could do with a little help when it comes to food and drinks? You needn’t spend a fortune…
I’ve come up with 7 tasty pirate-themed treats that all kids are guaranteed to love. So if you’re looking to throw them a pirate party they’ll never forget, look no further. Hoist the colours!
1. Fish Food
A pirate’s life is a life spent on the sea, and that means lots of fishing for grub to eat! Fish fingers are just perfect and will give kids a true taste of life on the ocean. Why not offer up some crab cakes or miniature shrimps too for a bit of deep sea variety? Arrrrrgggghh!
2. Chocolate Coins
Chocolate money makes an excellent addition to any pirate themed party. After all, what pirate doesn’t love shiny gold or silver coins? If you want to get really creative, you could fill up an old chest with them, and decorate it with gold paint, or you could even make a party game out of it – give the kids a treasure map and send them out on a scavenger hunt for the buried or hidden treasure chest. It’ll keep the little scallywags entertained for hours and they’ll have something tasty to enjoy at the end of it!
3. Hula Hoop Rings and Candy Necklaces
Pirates love to wear as much jewellery as they can get their swashbucklin’ hands on, so what better way to channel the spirit of a true sea rover than with some edible jewellery? Candy necklaces, gummy rings, and hula hoops are great fun for girls and boys alike, and a perfect party novelty!
4. Colourful Cake
It wouldn’t be a party without cake, but don’t feel you need to go all out and buy the most expensive pirate themed birthday cake on the shop shelf. If you’re on a bit of a budget, how about buying a few packs of plain fairy cakes and decorating them yourself with some coloured icing? Red, white and black are a brilliant choice of colours. For a few extra dollars, you could buy a pack of skull and cross bone cake toppers or miniature flags for that added ‘out at sea’ effect!
5. Coconut Slices and Pineapple Skewers
Crisps and chocolate always go down well at any children’s party, but who’s to say you can’t incorporate some healthy treats too and still have fun? Yo Ho Ho! Why not serve up some coconut slices to give kids a taste of the Caribbean island lifestyle? Or pineapple pieces on wooden skewer sticks? Fruit doesn’t have to be dull, and a little imagination can really go a long way!
6. Exotic Fruit Smoothies
Fruit smoothies are not only a deliciously refreshing beverage, they’re also a great source of Vitamin C. Pirates need as much Vitamin C as they can get to avoid catching scurvy and falling ill. If you really want to impress, you could even serve them up in hollowed out coconut shells!
7. Desert Island Sandwiches
Sandwiches are a safe bet for any party, but they needn’t be boring. How about buying a set of ‘beach’ themed sandwich cutters? You could have sandwiches shaped like starfish, or even palm trees. Land Ahoy!
I hope these suggestions are helpful. There’s no reason planning a themed party should be overly stressful, and with a little careful thought and a healthy dose of imagination, you can pull off a shipshape pirate party the kids will be talking about for years to come. What are you waiting for? Weigh the anchor and hoist the mizzen! Yarrr!
