Party themes work wonders for a child’s birthday party as they give the day focus and make it extra memorable. Throwing a themed birthday party doesn’t need to be a daunting or expensive task. A little creativity and some lateral thinking will go a long way.
Here are a few themed ideas you may find helpful.
Little Mermaid Party
For decorations think blue and green streamers, ribbons and balloons to create an underwater paradise that even Ariel would be proud of.
Create a hidden treasure trail game complete with a treasure chest of goodies as the prize. Paint a small cardboard box and fill with sweets and other treats. Give the kids clues that lead to the other clues and eventually to the booty.
Play ‘pin the tail on the mermaid’ – the kiddies will love it (even if the mermaid doesn’t).
For the party ‘seafood’ use anything blue and sea-themed. Let your little mermaid and her buddies dive in to fruity blue jelly, blue-iced fairy cakes and sandwiches made with shell or starfish-shaped sandwich cutters for a yummy underwater feast.
For the perfect addition to an under the sea themed birthday party, why not invite Oscar the Octopus along? Our Octopus jumping castle includes a super-fun Bounce and Slide that lets the children bounce, climb the rope ladder and slide to the bottom. Your little mermaid and her pals will love Oscar the Octopus, and with Oscar on board any underwater party is bound to go just swimmingly.
Safari Party
Drape mosquito nets and animal prints from the ceiling to create a true jungle atmosphere and hang green streamers and balloons to look like vines and trees.
Give the kids some mini toy binoculars and safari hats and send them on their very own adventure. Give them a list of animals to spot and hide soft toy or plastic animals around the house or outside in the garden. Whoever finds the most wins a prize!
‘Pin the tail on the lion’ makes a grrreat party game for mini adventurers.
For tummies that rumble in the jungle create a scrumptious safari-themed spread. Bowls of colourful gummy worms, black and white zebra cupcakes and paw-print shaped sandwiches are perfect party eats for hungry explorers.
Get a jungle sounds tape to play for some serious safari sound.
Why not hire our Jungle Fever jumping castle and let your little monkey and her friends go wild! With its bright colours and animal cartoon theme, the Jungle Fever castle will be a roaring success for any little animal-lover, and the rest of her pack will love it too!
Fairy Princess Party
Give your guests pretty fairy wings, tiaras and wands to make them feel like princesses for the day. If you’re brave enough, invest in some face paint and glitter for serious mum points.
For the decorations think as girly as possible. Pretty pink and purple balloons, glittery streamers and feather boas are perfect decorations for a little princess party. Try using twinkling fairy lights for an extra touch of magic.
Let your guests ‘pin the wings on the fairy’ or ‘pin the crown on the princess’ for the chance to win a magical prize.
Make cute invitations from pin or purple card and add glitter or confetti to the envelope for a touch of fairy dust.
Being a fairy princess can be hard work, make sure your guests have plenty of energy for making magic and serve them up a royal feast. Make sandwiches using crown-shaped cutters, pink and purple fairy cakes with glittery icing and yummy pink lemonade perfect for any princess.
To make your little fairy princess’ party truly special, hire our Princess Palace, a pink and purple castle decorated with birds, butterflies and pretty princesses. It’s super-bouncy and comes with a slippery pink slide to make the ultimate fun but girly jumping castle that’s fit for a princess.

Hi Grasshoppers
Your blog is great. I have twin boy/girl so we’re thinking about a Fairy / Goblin party. I will refer back to your blog article on “3 Party Themes for Girls”. Thank you.
